I love this pen! I have a Lamy Safari Demonstrator that was my favorite pen before I bought this one. Now they share the top spot. A reviewer of this pen (but a different color) in another thread said it felt cheap. Well, it feels like aluminum. I guess since it's lightweight and not...I don't know, sturdy-feeling, she might have called that "cheap". I love the (lack of) weight that the aluminum body imparts to this pen. The EF nib writes perfectly for me, just like my Safari. I use a converter and bottled ink, and the flow is excellent and consistent. I like to write really small in my journals and this nib does that well. Also, I post my cap when I write and there is no scratching on the end of the body from posting and removing the cap. The purple color is dark, more like maroon. I love it.

I own three Lamy Safari's and this pen is without a doubt my favorite of the brand so far. If you like the safari, but feel it's plastic body insubstantial, the AL-Star will fit the bill much better. VERY solid, and the extra fine nib is a dream to write with. The Lamy ink supplied with it is fine, but I can't wait to throw a convertor in it to use some different inks and see how it runs.
